Beattie had his book ready in the shops to coincide with the end of Sutcliffe's trial to maximise his commercial gain from the sales while the story was still a hot topic. I phoned the Daily Star and tried to tell them my story but little did I know then how they were geared to a commercial deadline and money was their only goal. They wouldnt meet me and I had no book written at that time so I was just a voice on the phone trying to tell them that the West Yorkshire police were fooled by Sutcliffe into believing that he was the Yorkshire Ripper. Had it been Billy Tracey himself, they would have equally dismissed him. A few years later when I had my book written they still wouldnt entertain the idea and were totally reluctant to even suggest that they were all wrong. |
